Our Mission
The Seminary beyond walls, Bexley Seabury educates, forms, and inspires the body of Christ to blaze new pathways for prophetic and pastoral service in response to God’s call.

We minimize barriers to theological education and ministerial formation for all God’s people.
Mission-Oriented
We equip all of God’s people with theologically and ethically grounded leadership for the advancement of God’s mission in the world.
Future-Focused
We move boldly, with faith and hope, into the unfolding future of the church and the world.
The Expansive History of Bexley Seabury
Bexley Seabury Seminary was formed in 2012 through the federation of Bexley Hall Seminary in Columbus, OH, and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. The history of the two seminaries, now shared, builds on the ministries of their 19th-century founders, while aiming to be a more diverse and inclusive space for students and participants to study, build community, and deepen their faith.

Our Home Base
As The Seminary Beyond Walls, Bexley Seabury’s learning community stretches across the country—students, faculty, and staff rooted in many places, gathered through digital classrooms, and united by a shared call to serve Christ’s Church. Yet even a dispersed community needs a home.
We are overjoyed to have found ours at the Episcopal Diocesan Center—St. James Commons—in Chicago, where, with strong support from the Diocese of Chicago and St. James Cathedral, we relocated our permanent offices in November 2025. This partnership reflects our long-standing commitment to innovative, accessible theological education grounded in the Anglican tradition. It also places us within a vibrant ministry hub where ideas, formation, and collaboration can flourish.
Our presence at 65 E. Huron comes at a particularly hopeful moment for the Diocesan and Cathedral communities with renewed purpose to steward this historic center into a renewed era of mission. Together, we are building a shared space for deeper relationships and common purpose.
From our home in Chicago, we continue to serve a nationwide community—fully accredited, joyfully connected, and steadfast in preparing lay and ordained leaders with scholarship, wisdom, imagination, and grace.
